BALTIMORE, MD – Department of General Services Secretary Ellington E. Churchill, Jr. joined Major General Linda Singh and the Maryland Army National Guard today for the ribbon cutting at the new Havre de Grace Readiness Center in Havre de Grace. General Services and the Maryland Army National Guard worked closely throughout the design and construction of this state-of-the-art facility.

“The Maryland Army National Guard is an important partner, and we worked closely with them to bring this new, state-of-the-art readiness center to fruition,” said Secretary Churchill. “As the lead agency for state building construction, we know the importance of delivering a quality project on time and on budget to our clients, and ultimately to the citizens of Maryland.”

DGS was responsible for overseeing the planning, budgeting, and design of the $17 million Havre de Grace Readiness Center. “This is an excellent project,” said Major General Singh. “And it took an excellent team to complete it.

“Secretary Churchill and the Department of General Services are excellent partners,” she added.

The site was once the location of the Havre de Grace Race Track. The club house became the home of the Havre de Grace Armory in 1951, when the property was purchased by the Maryland Army National Guard. Architectural elements of the clubhouse, such as the finishing line mirror and crest, were incorporated into the new readiness center.

“This readiness center represents the state’s commitment to develop the site in support of our friends and colleagues who so bravely serve and protect our country both here at home and overseas – the Maryland Army National Guard,” said Secretary Churchill.
