DGS Enhances the Visitor’s Experience at Jane’s Island State Park

Expansion JanesIslandDiningof the Nature Center Complex at Jane’s Island State Park in Somerset County has been completed.

The project was overseen by DGS and involved the design and construction of an indoor, air-conditioned dining area, which was built as an addition to the Nature Center Complex. Other site improvements included renovations to the camping registration area and the camp store, and construction of a new fish-cleaning station.

“Expansion of the Nature Center underscores the State’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all Marylanders,” said Secretary Bassette. “That includes enhancing the quality of their visits to our state parks.”

In addition to the Nature Center expansion, DGS is also overseeing renovations to three cabins, construction of a new cabin and improvements to fire protection systems at various facilities at the park. These projects are in various stages of development.

Located near Crisfield on the Eastern Shore, Janes Island State Park is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. It is surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay and divided into two distinct areas. The mainland portion of the park has campsites, a conference center, picnic areas and pavilions, as well as a boat ramp and marina. The island portion includes more than 2,900 acres of saltmarsh, 30 miles of water trails and miles of isolated, pristine beaches.
