State Summer Learning Symposia Target Elementary and Secondary Education

2018 Professional Learning Symposia Now Offer AP/SAT Workshop

Baltimore – The Maryland State Department of Education will host two Summer Professional Learning Symposia next month aimed at both elementary and secondary education. The 2018 Summer Professional Learning Symposia are free regional events that will feature two conferences in one: each symposium will house a two-day elementary conference and a one-day secondary workshops.

The elementary education-based conference will expand focus on English/Language Arts and Mathematics and will include additional sessions on English Learners, Geography, Health Education, Parent Engagement, and much more. Participants in the elementary conference should prepare a representative school team to attend. While it is highly recommended to bring a school team, individuals are welcome to attend. Participants will be eligible for one (1) CPD credit.

The secondary education workshops will offer half day AP and SAT workshops by the College Board held on the first day of both symposia, in addition to workshops on Health Education, American Government for high school teachers, and U.S. History for middle school teachers. A special keynote address by Lynn Davis, Director of the Child Advocacy Group of Frederick County will kick-off the first day of each symposium. Her discussion, Understanding the Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences will be applicable to all participants.
