Proposals Sought to Administer Maryland’s New Next Generation Scholars Program

Grants to Local Nonprofits Will Help Support Program

BALTIMORE – Nonprofits are eligible to apply for a new grant to administer the Next Generation Scholars of Maryland (NGSP) Program.

Nonprofits are eligible to apply for the program to serve students in the following school systems: Allegany County Public Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools, Caroline County Public Schools, Dorchester County Public Schools, Kent County Public Schools, Prince George’s County Public Schools, Somerset County Public Schools, and Wicomico County Public Schools.

NSGP is a program designed to support low-income students in achieving their college goals. The $4.7 million program will provide funds for nonprofits with a minimum of a five-year history of proven success in preparing students for college.

NGSP was established by HB 1403, passed and signed into law during the 2016 legislative session. The program provides funding for Guaranteed Access Grants to be awarded to students in certain Maryland high schools intending to go to college after high school.

The law includes prequalifying for college funds that will be available through the Guaranteed Access Grant, administered by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).

The Request For Proposals must be completed by 4 p.m. on July 11, 2017 and can be accessed through this link: http://marylandpublicschools.org/about/Pages/Grants/index.aspx
