Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, February 28

Work Session Set for February 27

BALTIMORE – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 28, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition, the State Board will hold a work session on Monday, February 27. It will be held in conference room 6 in on the 8th floor beginning at 10 a.m. The session will be used to discuss Maryland’s plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Note: Parts of the 7th floor are currently under reconstruction. While the State Board room itself remains open, visitors should be aware there may be some construction-related dust and other inconveniences.

Items on the Feb. 28 regular meeting agenda include the following:

9:03 a.m. Baltimore School for the Arts

A choral group from the Baltimore School for the Arts will perform for the State Board and others gathered for the meeting.

9:10 a.m. Every Student Succeeds Act

The Maryland State Department of Education will continue its consideration of Maryland’s plan for the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

1:30 p.m. Superintendent of the Year

The State Board will recognize Dr. Theresa Alban, Superintendent of the Frederick County Public Schools, recently named Maryland’s Superintendent of the Year for 2017. Dr. Alban has been superintendent in Frederick County since 2011 and was reappointed for a second term in 2015.
