MARYLAND STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO MEET ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 5

BALTIMORE – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Monday, December 5, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m.

(Please note that this meeting will be held on Monday rather than the usual Tuesday meeting day.)

Items on this month’s agenda include the following:

9:25 a.m. Election of Vice President
The State Board will elect a new vice president, following the resignation in October of former vice president S. James Gates.

10:25 a.m. Blue Ribbon Announcement
The Maryland State Department of Education will announce the 2016-17 State Blue Ribbon Schools.

11:00 a.m. Kindergarten Readiness
The State Board will hear a report on the 2016 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), including overall performance levels for the state, districts and the four readiness domains assessed through the KRA.

11:25 a.m. Every Student Succeeds Act
MSDE staff will review with the State Board the first draft of Maryland’s Consolidated State Plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Staff also will discuss plans for additional stakeholder engagement.

2:10 p.m. School Calendar Waiver Process
The State Board is scheduled to set the process by which local school systems may apply for a waiver from the post-Labor Day school start that was set forth by Governor Hogan’s October 12 Executive Order.
