Maryland State Board of Education to Meet October 25

Retreat is set for Monday, October 24

BALTIMORE – The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 25, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m.

Items on this month’s regular meeting agenda on Tuesday include the following:

9:50 a.m. ESSA Accountability Plan
The State Board will continue its discussion of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Accountability Plan, currently under development. Board members will be joined by a representative from the Maryland Association of Boards of Education.

11:30 a.m. Teacher Induction, Retention and Advancement
The State Board will hear an update on the recommendations from a workgroup developing implementation plans for the Teacher Induction, Retention, and Incentive Act of 2016. The workgroup is required to deliver an interim report to the Governor and General Assembly by Nov. 1.

1:30 p.m. Principals of the Year
Board members will recognize Maryland elementary, middle, and high school principals and assistant principals who have been named by their professional organizations as Principals of the Year.

The State Board also has scheduled a full-day retreat on Monday, October 24. That session will get underway at 9 a.m., with an executive session scheduled for the morning and a public session beginning at 12 noon. It will be held at the Conference Center at the Maritime Institute, 692 Maritime Blvd., Linthicum Heights, MD 21090.
