International Gospel Artist Donald Lawrence to Lead Statewide Choir in Concert, Provide Professional Development
Community Concert Set for October 13 at Baltimore’s New Psalmist Baptist Church
BALTIMORE – The Fine Arts Office at the Maryland State Department of Education and four partners will present a special two-day professional development training for Maryland music educators and community musicians next week, which will culminate in a community concert titled Donald Lawrence: In Concert on Saturday, October 13.

WHAT:
The Maryland State Department of Education—Office of Fine Arts and partners will present Donald Lawrence: In Concert, a two-hour musical celebration with all proceeds benefiting the 2019 Best of Maryland Arts Education Festival.
The concert culminates a statewide Choral Workshop for Maryland’s music educators and community musicians that will be led by Stellar Award-winning, international gospel artist Donald Lawrence. The workshop aims to authentically build skills and techniques for Maryland music educators to explore music from the American gospel canon and to strengthen linkages between music classrooms and music making in the community.
The workshop is part of the new Maryland Masterclass Series, a professional development program from the Office of Fine Arts for music, visual arts, dance, theatre, and media arts educators statewide. The series brings world-class Master Artists to Maryland for curated professional development sessions that center experiential learning through creating and connecting. The Maryland Masterclass Series is part of the Office of Fine Arts of the Maryland State Department of Education’s professional development suite, Maryland Centers for Creative Classrooms (MC3). The Arts Education in Maryland Schools Alliance is the fiscal agent and grant administrator for the Maryland Masterclass Series, an initiative of Maryland Centers for Creative Classrooms.
