ESSA Listening Tour to Make Stop in Washington County, January 5

State Gathering Input for New Plan

BALTIMORE –The Maryland State Department of Education has scheduled a listening session in Hagerstown this week to gather ideas for the State’s plan for the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Each State is in the process of updating its plans for school and student improvement in compliance with ESSA. Maryland has been developing its plan with broad stakeholder input for more than a year. The Hagerstown visit, the first in MSDE’s listening tour, takes place this Thursday evening.

A draft of Maryland’s ESSA plan, along with a brief survey, was posted last month on the MSDE website, MarylandPublicSchools.org. The State Board of Education will make final decisions and approve the plan for submission to the U.S. Department of Education this summer.

Preregistration for the listening sessions is encouraged. Please go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/maryland-essa-listening-tours-tickets-30254702630
