Anne Arundel Education Officer Joins MSDE as Deputy State Superintendent for Finance
Amalie Brandenburg Starts New Position Today
Baltimore—Amalie Brandenburg, education officer for Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh, today joins the Maryland State Department of Education as Deputy State Superintendent of Finance and Administration.
In her position, Ms. Brandenburg will oversee all of MSDE’s fiscal operations, including budget, accounting, procurement, and financial coordination. She also will oversee the Office of Policy and Fiscal Analysis; Office of Fiscal Planning, Research, and Evaluation; the Office of Compliance and Monitoring; as well as facilities.
“Amalie Brandenburg comes to MSDE with a wealth of education and local government experience,” said Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools. “Her rare combination of knowledge, leadership, education and experience makes her the ideal candidate for this critical position, and we are thrilled she is joining our team.”
Ms. Brandenburg has served in the role as education officer in Anne Arundel County since 2015. Prior to joining County Executive Schuh’s administration, she was a member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. She was also part of former Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantalides’ transition team and has experience in the private sector.
A 1996 engineering graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Ms. Brandenburg also holds an MBA from the university.
