BioCycle to Tour Compost Project at Days End Farm in Howard County

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Professionals attending the BioCycle East Coast Conference will tour a manure composting project at Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Howard County on Friday, April 7. This is the first completed project funded by the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Animal Waste Technology Fund, and is implemented by Green Mountain Technologies.

The EarthFlow composting system processes manure from the farm’s 25-stall barn. The state-of-the art system can process batches of 1.5 tons of horse manure in two weeks, and reduce nutrient and input volume by about 50 percent.  Finished compost is utilized as bedding and on pastureland. Published since 1960, BioCycle magazine is recognized worldwide for its authoritative coverage on composting, organics recycling, anaerobic digestion, renewable energy, and community sustainability. It is the official magazine of the US Composting Council and is recognized internationally for outstanding leadership on organics recycling.
