New Episode of Maryland Farm & Harvest premieres January 24

Popular weekly series showcases Maryland’s largest industry

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Maryland Public Television’s popular original series Maryland Farm & Harvest is now in its fourth season with new half-hour episodes airing Tuesdays at 7 p.m. The series puts a human face on Maryland agriculture by telling stories of the people, skills and technology required to sustain and grow the state’s number one industry. Episode 411 will premiere Tuesday, January 24, at 7 p.m.

Joanne Clendining, who earned an Emmy® from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter (NCCBC) of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for her work as Maryland Farm & Harvest host, returns for season four.  Joining Joanne is Contributing Editor Al Spoler, who serves up the Local Buy segment during each episode.

Featured on this week’s episode:

• Final Four Farm in Dorchester County. Viewers learn about the installation cutting-edge Irish technology at Bob Murphy’s Rhodesdale farm and how it’s used to power his entire operation using chicken litter.
• Holloway Brothers Farm in Harford County. Soybean farmer Jeff Holloway explains to viewers the process of harvesting the interesting-looking crop covering many Maryland farm fields.
• Just Ordinary Woodlands in Worcester County. Just Ordinary Woodlands’ crop – trees – take decades to mature and are anything but “ordinary.”
• City Hydro in Baltimore City. During the episode’s The Local Buy segment, host Al Spoler learns that good things come in small packages while visiting this unique “vertical” farm located on the second floor of a rowhouse near Patterson Park. The farm supplies local restaurants 75 varieties of organic microgreens. City Hydro in Baltimore is part of a network of self-sustainable individually owned vertical farms.

The series airs on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on MPT-HD and is rebroadcast on Thursdays at 11:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6 a.m. Each show also airs on MPT2 on Fridays at 7 p.m.  For more information visit mpt.org/farm.
