Agriculture Secretary to Present Farmers Market Week Proclamation at Crofton Farmers Market on Wednesday

USDA Officials Will Present National Proclamation at Crofton Market

 ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan has declared August 7-13 as Farmers Market Week in Maryland to coincide with National Farmers Market Week, and Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder will present the Governor’s Proclamation at the Crofton Farmers Market. Also on hand will be representatives from USDA who will present a national proclamation for National Farmers Week to Secretary Bartenfelder and the market managers.

The Crofton market is in its second year of operation.  Farmers Market Week encourages citizens to visit farmers markets and buy local products.  Consumers can find a farmers market near them by visiting the Maryland’s Best website. There are currently 147 farmers markets in Maryland — at least one in each county and Baltimore city. Maryland farmers markets generated $51 million dollars in total sales, with more than 2.3 million consumers visiting the markets last year, according to a 2015 survey by the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the Maryland Farmers Market Association. What: Presenting the Governor’s proclamation, declaring August 7-13, 2016 as Maryland Farmers Market Week at the Crofton Farmers Market. Also, representatives from USDA will present a National Farmers Marke Week proclamation to Secretary Bartenfelder.

When: Wednesday, August 10. Presentations at 3:30 p.m., followed by a tour of the market.
