2016 Maryland High School Envirothon Scheduled for June 22-23

Winning Teams from 19 Maryland Counties to Compete in Frederick County

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 13, 2016) – While most high school students have wrapped up final exams and tossed their backpacks aside for the summer, more than 100 of Maryland’s brightest teenagers will be competing at the 26th annual Maryland Envirothon on June 22 and 23 in Frederick County. The Envirothon is a rigorous two-day outdoor natural resources competition for teens passionate about the outdoors and the environment. Student teams will compete in five areas of environmental studies: soil/land use, aquatics ecology, forestry, wildlife, and this year’s environmental issue: invasive species.  The winning team will represent Maryland at the North American Envirothon at Trent University in Petersburg, Ontario, Canada later this summer.

What: The 26th Annual Maryland Envirothon competition for high school students.

Where: Mount St. Mary’s College, 16300 Old Emmitsburg Rd., Emmitsburg, MD 21727 (Frederick County)

When: June 22 – 1 to 5 p.m. – Student Field Training
June 23 – 8 to 11:30 a.m. – Competition
1 to 2 p.m. – Awards Presentation

– Anne Arundel County:  South River High School
– Calvert County: Calvert County High School
– Carroll County: Venturing Crew 202
– Cecil County: Tome School – Team #2
– Charles County: La Plata High School
– Dorchester County: North Dorchester High School
– Frederick County:  Urbana High School – Mundane School
– Garrett County: Northern Garrett High School – Northern Lights Team #1
– Harford County: Harford Christian school
– Howard County: Wilde Lake High School
– Kent County: Kent County High School
– Montgomery County: Richard Montgomery High School – Militant Platypodes
– Prince George’s County: Eleanor Roosevelt High School
– Queen Anne’s County: Queen Anne’s County High School
– St Mary’s County: Great Mills High School  – Team #1
– Talbot County: Saint Peter & Paul High School  – Team #2
– Washington County: Clear Spring High School – Trailblazers
– Wicomico County: Parkside High School
