New Episode of Maryland Public TV series Maryland Farm & Harvest Airs Jan. 26

ANNAPOLIS, MD  – Maryland Public Television’s (MPT) popular original series Maryland Farm & Harvest is now in its third season with new half-hour episodes airing Tuesdays at 7 p.m. The series puts a human face on Maryland agriculture by telling stories of the people, skills and technology required to sustain and grow the state’s number one industry.

Featured on the program on Tuesday, January 26 at 7 p.m. are:

  • Genetically Modified Organisms, commonly referred to as “GMOs,” are a controversial topic. One thing both sides of the GMO debate can agree on is the need for more consumer education.  To help demystify things, Maryland Farm & Harvest visits a Nebraska lab where GMOs are created and talks with farmer Hans Schmidt of Sudlersville who grows both GMO crops and non-GMO crops.
  • Walnut Hill Farms in Hurlock. Jason Scott, a young Dorchester County farmer, raises grain, runs a seed dealership, and travels the world representing U.S. wheat growers. Host Joanne Clendining learns how Jason tests the seeds he sells to ensure customers are getting a good product.
  • Perennial Farm in Glen Arm. The farm’s more than 50-acres are filled with 60-plus greenhouses and other growing areas and provides perennials – plants that can live for more than two years – for stadiums, hotels and other public spaces up and down the east coast.
  •  The Local Buy: Segment Host Al Spoler learns how to make a new farm suitable for pasture and samples the Berkshire hogs at Mary’s Land Farm in Howard County. http://marysland.farm/
  • Then & Now: Seeds.

Joanne Clendining, who earned an Emmy® from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter (NCCBC) of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for her work as Maryland Farm & Harvest host, returns for season three.  Joining Joanne is Contributing Editor Al Spoler, who serves up the Local Buy segment during each episode.

During its first two seasons Maryland Farm & Harvest has been nominated for five Emmy awards from the NCCBC of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. https://youtu.be/s1wGrKM8ZVI
