Maryland Buyer-Grower Expo to be Held Jan. 20: Maryland Farmers & Producers to Connect with Potential Buyers

ANNAPOLIS, MD  – The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) will host a wholesale local food trade show on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium – “N” Room in Annapolis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The purpose of this expo is to provide an opportunity for Maryland farmers, aquaculturalists, producers, and processors to connect with buyers.

More than 300 are registered to attend, including more than 60 producers. Other participants include buyers from grocery retailers, restaurants, schools, institutions, and other venues. Also attending will be distributors, economic development officials, Extension agents and county agricultural marketing officials. The types of local products that buyers will typically find at this meeting are: Fruits and vegetables; meats (such as beef, chicken, turkey; cheese; seafood (such as aquacultured trout and oysters); and specialty products (including locally made ice cream, soups, chocolate, coffee, flour, wine and more).

Rising consumer demand for locally grown and produced fruits, vegetables, meats, and specialty items is sparking more interest in Maryland products from buyers. Maryland’s farmers play an important role in providing local, healthy food, saving open farmland, and expanding rural economies.
