ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 22, 2015) – In celebration of Maryland’s ice cream trail, Maryland Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder will visit Broom’s Bloom Dairy, Keyes Creamery and Prigel Family Creamery this Thursday to encourage all Marylanders to enjoy fresh, delicious ice cream. The Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail includes eight farms that stretch over more than 290 miles from Ocean City in the east to Washington County in the west. Under the program, people pick up an Ice Cream Trail Passport at any of the eight creameries (or online at www.marylandsbest.net), answer a question and have it “stamped” at each creamery. Those who submit a completed passport to MDA before September 23 will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize, which includes a $50 gift certificate to the winner’s favorite creamery.

Who/What: Secretary Bartenfelder will visit Harford and Baltimore County farm-based creameries that are on the “Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail.”

Why:  To highlight the important contributions of Maryland’s 455 dairy farms which accounted for $244 million in sales in 2014; and to increase the public’s general understanding of dairy farming by encouraging them to visit a farm and see what dairy farming is really like, all while enjoying delicious, locally-produced ice cream.

Where/Where: Thursday, June 25

  • 11:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Broom’s Bloom Dairy, 1700 S. Fountain Green Road, Bel Air (Harford County)
  • 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.: Keyes Creamery, 3712 Aldino Road, Aberdeen (Harford County)
  • 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.: Prigel Family Creamery, 4852 Long Green Road, Glen Arm (Baltimore County)

  • Photos will be available after the events by contacting MDA.
