Media Advisory: State Agriculture Department to Celebrate Earth Day by Planting Tree in Honor of Former Employee
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Staff members at the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) will celebrate Earth Day 2014 by planting a tree in memory of former Marketing Specialist and Public Information Officer Tony Evans, who worked at the agency for 30 years (1973 to 2003) and died earlier this year. During his career with the agency, Evans expanded the state’s network of farmers markets, promoted Maryland farm products, and championed hard-working farm families. Evans also worked as a newspaper reporter and was active in local and state politics.
The tree, selected by and purchased with voluntary donations from MDA staff, will provide a place of shade and reflection on the back lawn of the building for years to come.
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year to mark the birth of the modern environmental movement and broaden the base of support for environmental programs. More than a billion people participate in Earth Day events every year.
