MEDIA ADVISORY: State Ag Secretary to Visit Creameries on Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail in Baltimore, Frederick, Harford and Washington Counties
ANNAPOLIS, MD – In celebration of Maryland’s ice cream trail, Maryland Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance encourages all Marylanders to enjoy fresh, delicious ice cream as he continues trailblazing the network of dairy farms across the state that produce ice cream and sell it directly to consumers. The eight farms on the trail stretch over more than 290 miles from Ocean City in the east to Washington County in the west. Under the program, people pick up an Ice Cream Trail Passport at any of the eight creameries (or online), answer a question and have it “stamped” at each creamery. Those who submit a completed passport to MDA before September 16 will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize, which includes a $50 gift certificate to the winner’s favorite creamery.
Who/What:
Secretary Hance visit several farm-based creameries that are on the “Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail.”
Why:
To highlight the important contributions of Maryland’s 496 dairy farms, which accounted for $188 million in sales in 2012; and to increase the public’s general understanding of dairy farming by encouraging them to visit a farm and see what dairy farming is really like, all while enjoying delicious, locally-produced ice cream.
