Summer opens with open barn at Second Chances

Inspector General Joe Perry at the Second Chances Open Barn

TOWSON, MD — About 100 people attended our Second Chances Farm open barn last weekend, getting a chance to feed and pet our retired thoroughbred horses who are cared for by inmates.

Our director, Sarah Stein, met with visitors about volunteering at the barn and sponsoring a horse through the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, which runs the program with Public Safety.

Second Chances in Sykesville is one of nine restorative justice horse farm operations in the country, giving inmates exiting prison the skills to work with horses.
