A toast! To volunteers Karen and Frank Storey

As part of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we asked our Volunteer Activity Coordinators to tell us a bit about some of the volunteers working in their facilities. Here’s what they had to say!

TOWSON, MD — What’s better than sitting at home watching television? Working to help people build confidence! “We’d be home watching Jeopardy,” said Volunteer Frank Storey. He and Karen Storey are volunteers of the Year at Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup where they’ve lead the Toastmasters public speaking program for 12 years.

They also run the program at Dorsey Run Correctional Facility.

The couple says the reward for their Wednesday evening and Saturday morning sessions is seeing the growth in self-confidence in staff and inmates, who both participate in the program.

They can’t think of anything they’d rather be doing.

“We’d be home watching Jeopardy,” Frank said. “We can do that any time. I’d rather be doing this.”
