Eastern prison graduates three dogs to aid disabled vets
TOWSON, MD — They have learned to close doors, retrieve household items, and even assist in calming inmates down in times of stress. On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, Li’l Jimmy, Jennie, and Barrie will get their reward. The dog trio will graduate from the America’s VetDogs program in which inmates train dogs at Eastern Correctional Institution to aid disabled veterans.
The America’s VetDogs program is one of the most valued in the Maryland prison system because it teaches inmates responsibility and compassion for the animals, who learn skills such as opening refrigerators and cabinets. Inmates who train the dogs will be available for interviews.
