In the community: Division of Parole & Probation

TOWSON, MD — Dedicated Parole and Probation agents such as Laurieann Beard help show the true spirit of Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services: a community-oriented department that does its best to give back.

Senior Agent Beard (pictured with the Western District Police Commander, Major Sheree Briscoe) helped with the Baltimore Police Western District Fall Festival on October 24. Here’s how she describes it:

This festival was put  together in an  effort to bring more unity in the community and to educate the residents about the different services that are available to them.  This was an all-day, fun-filled event.

I had the opportunity to talk with the residents and give them a better insight as to exactly what is the role of Parole and Probation.  The residents were very receptive to the information and were glad that we were giving back to the community.  The Center for Urban Families, Fire Department, Enoch Pratt Library, and a host of other community partners participated in this event.

The kids enjoyed hotdogs , cotton candy, popcorn, games, rides, face painting and a host of other things. There were bikes raffled off.  The kids were able to visit each vendor’s table to trick -or-treat for candy and this gave us an opportunity to fill their bags with information to forward to their parents.

The event was a great success. I was glad  that Parole and Probation was invited to the event. I will continue to commit and build a positive relationship with our stakeholders in the community.
