(TOWSON, MD) — Two Correctional Officers thwarted an escape attempt by a man in police custody, showcasing the acts of courage our employees routinely engage in to keep the community safe.

Baltimore City police were bringing a man to Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center on an arrest warrant for attempted murder. He escaped their custody and climbed a sally port gate.

Fortunately, COs Damien Rhue – a 15-year DPSCS veteran – and Eugene Early, who’s been with the department for three and a half years, were one step ahead of him.

“He was determined not to be here,” Early said of the would-be escapee. “We were more determined to keep him here.”

They were successfully able to keep him under control until transferring him back to police custody.

DPSCS Secretary Stephen T. Moyer stopped by to thank the two for their dedication to the job. “We protect the public and we save lives. That’s what DPSCS does,” Moyer said. “That’s what these two men did.”
