D.A.R.E. still going strong, thanks to DPSCS

[soliloquy id=”2546″](TOWSON, MD) — Claude Nelson of the Maryland Community Crime Prevention Institute (MCCPI) has trained hundreds of law enforcement officers and reached thousands of middle and high school students himself with the D.A.R.E. message about resisting dangerous behaviors.

On the weekend of April 12, Nelson and some costumed friends helped raise money for a worthy cause. The annual Red Shoe Shuffle, a 5K run and walk,  raised $345,000 for the Ronald McDonald House, which houses and cares for the families of hospitalized children who come to Baltimore from all over for treatment.

DAREN the Lion (the D.A.R.E. mascot), McGruff the crime dog, and his nephew Scruff (mascots for the MD  Community Crime Prevention Institute) were all on hand. Mascots from all around Baltimore participate in the event to entertain and help promote participation in the 5k Run, Walk and Shuffle. MCCPI and the Maryland D.A.R.E. Officers’ Association have participated every year.
