NRP in Demand over Holiday Weekend

The Maryland Natural Resources Police had a busy Memorial Day weekend on the water and on public lands.

NRP, the oldest statewide law enforcement agency, responded to 501 calls for service, issued 442 tickets and 1,136 warnings and checked more than 7,000 recreational anglers and watermen.

Saturation patrols statewide checked 2,244 recreational vessels during the 72 hours from  May 24 through May 26. Five boaters were charged with operating under the influence.

The State recorded eight boating accidents and two fatalities during that time.
