New Germany State Park is hosting a day full of fun and flora at the first annual Mountain Maryland Native Plant Festival. Perfect for the whole family, the event will feature native plants available for purchase, presentations by plant experts, as well as kid- and teen- friendly activities.

Plant experts will be on hand to speak and answer questions about planting and caring for natives. A large variety of plants native to the mid-Atlantic will be available for sale (cash or check only) from Clear Ridge Nursery located in Union Bridge, Maryland, and Enchanter’s Garden Native Plant Nursery in Hinton, West Virginia.

The New Germany Lake House will be the main site and starting point for activities and demonstrations including a garlic mustard pull, guided hikes, a bird count, an invasive plant search, a “create your own” plant-able greeting card activity and much, much more! Click here to view the full schedule of events. The Lake House will also have food, refreshments and gift items available for purchase.

New Germany State Park and the Western Mountains Chapter of the Maryland Native Plant Society are sponsoring the festival. Participating organizations include: Allegany & Garrett Counties’ Bird Club; Friends of New Germany State Park; Frostburg Grows; Garrett County Master Gardeners; Native Plant Society (Western Mountains Chapter); Mountain Laurel Garden Club; and Savage River Watershed Association.
