Guests will travel through the bright autumn foliage as they learn about the region’s history, including relics of old modes of transportation which played an important role in the expansion and development of Western Maryland.

The former railway now serves as a 22-mile long paved walking and biking trail. The guided tour will be taken at a leisurely pace, last about four hours, and cover approximately 20 miles round-trip. It is intended for bicyclists above 10 years old and will be held rain or shine. Participants should bring their bike, lunch, appropriate weather attire and plenty of water.

The C&O Bicycle Shop offers bike rentals, bike supplies, snacks and drinks, and can be contacted at 301-678-6665. The Western Maryland Rail Trail is owned and managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Fort Frederick State Park complex.
