Assateague State Park to See Heavy Congestion October 5

by Martha

Roads to and within Assateague State Park will be extremely congested from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, due to the Salisbury University Sea Gull Century bicycle event in combination with increased visitation as a result of Assateague National Park being closed. Visitors should expect limited access to the day use parking lot and campground entrance. Staff recommend  guests arrive after noon to avoid the heavy traffic and limited parking.

Salisbury University is hosting the 25th Annual Sea Gull Century, a nationally acclaimed bicycling event, beginning and ending on the school’s campus. The 100-mile ride tours the picturesque Eastern Shore of Maryland and offers Assateague State Park as the midway point rest stop.

Visitors who anticipate coming to the park on this day are encouraged to be watchful for athletes riding adjacent to and along roads, highways and bridges, and should plan their visit for as late in the day as possible.

More information is available by contacting the park office at 410-641-2120.
