Janes Island State Park is looking for participants to help clean debris and trash from the beach and shoreline at its largest volunteer event of the year. The cleanup serves as the perfect opportunity for friends and families to get outside and enjoy one of Maryland’s most beautiful parks while helping restore and beautify the area.

The crew will meet at the park’s Ranger Julie Schweikert Nature Center at 8:30 a.m. Participants with canoes, kayaks or motorboats are encouraged to bring them, otherwise, the park will ferry participants to various parts of the island.

While the event has never been cancelled because of weather, volunteers should dress accordingly. In the event of an extreme weather forecast, call the park at 410-968-1565.

This cleanup serves as the perfect kick-off to the Day to Serve initiative taking place September 15-30. This two-week event is a chance for Marylanders to join with citizens of Virginia, West Virginia and Washington D.C. to make a difference in the lives of others and to make the planet a better place to live.
