September Teal Season to Open
The teal hunting season opens on September 16 and continues through September 30, 2013. Information on the teal hunting zone and other regulations for the 2013 September Teal Season are available online.
Hunters should note several important changes for the September teal season:
- Shooting hours will be one-half hour before sunrise to sunset (previously sunrise to sunset);
- The daily bag limit has been increased from four to six teal; and
- The possession limit for teal (and all other migratory game birds) is now three times the daily bag limit (previously two times the daily bag limit).
September teal seasons are offered to states that derive more than 80 percent of their annual teal harvest from the Prairie Pothole Region of the north central U.S. and southern Canada. The Breeding Waterfowl and Habitat Survey conduced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recorded about 7.7 million blue-winged teal and 3.1 million green-winged teal in 2013.
All migratory game bird hunters, including landowners who are license-exempt, must purchase the Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp/HIP Permit. All waterfowl hunters ages 16 and over must also possess the Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (federal duck stamp). Licenses, stamps and permits may be purchased online via COMPASS, by phone at 1-855-855-3906, at a DNR Service Center or at any one of the more than 250 Sport License Agents located across the State.
