Why can’t 8 year old children in Cecil county participate in this event like Washington County children. I have an 8 year old granddaughter who would love to be part of this event. Please re-consider the age limits for Cecil County children to participate. This seems to be giving Washington County children preferential treatment.

      Hello Mr. Sadler-
Thank you for your question regarding our upcoming youth events. This is the first year Maryland DNR is officially partnering with the Northern Chesapeake Sportsmen’s for Kids program, who have been doing this event in Cecil County for several years now.

With this new partnership we are trying to make improvements and some changes, including the age limit that was set in place by the Northern Chesapeake Sportsmen’s for Kids group years ago. But with this being our first year of official involvement, we are making minor changes this year; as not all of them can take place the first year. I am hoping to lower the age limit next year for this event so it is consistent with all our other Junior Hunter Field Day events.

We did have another Junior Hunter field Day event in June in Baltimore County that perhaps you’d be interested in next year. We are also coordinating a National Hunting and Fishing Day event in Baltimore County on Sept 28th. This is a free event that has a lot of the same activities that our Junior Hunter Field Day events have, but this is an unstructured event that is family oriented.
