Pennsylvania Woman Drowns while Swimming Near Turkey Point
The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) are investigating the accidental death of Nancy Rogers, 75 of Lancaster, Pa., after she drowned on June 22 near Turkey Point in Cecil County.
Nancy Rogers set sail with her husband on Saturday, June 22 from Bay Boat Works in Northeast, Md., for an overnight trip on the Chesapeake Bay. She was swimming from the couple’s sailboat while anchored near Turkey Point when she allegedly became carried away from the boat by the tide. She was unable to swim back to the boat and was unconscious by the time a nearby vessel could get to her. A good samaritan preformed CPR on Mrs. Rogers until she was transported by Cecil County Emergency Medical Services to Union Hospital where she was pronounced dead at approximately 8:30 p.m. An autopsy will be preformed at the Office of the Chief Medical examiner in Baltimore.
NRP remind citizens to wear lifejackets when swimming in open or unfamiliar waters.
