TREE-MENDOUS Now Accepting Orders for Spring 2013

A TREE-MENDOUS Planting

Schools, churches, organizations and businesses looking to green their community this spring are encouraged to check out the recently released TREE-MENDOUS 2013 order form, which features high-quality, native trees and shrubs available at discounted prices for plantings on public lands.

“Increasing the tree canopy in public, urban areas not only revitalizes the look and feel of these communities, it benefits our State’s natural resources and citizens by helping restore our air and water, and expanding habitat for wildlife,” said TREE-MENDOUS Coordinator Lindsay Major.

TREE-MENDOUS trees and shrubs are available for planting in any public area in Maryland, such as community open spaces, school grounds, government facilities and rights-of-way. Maryland Green Schools receive a one-to-one match on orders up to 20 trees. Purchasers should make sure they receive permission from the facility or land manager before ordering trees.

For the order form and more information, citizens may visit dnr.state.md.us/forests/treemendous/ordertrees.asp.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Marylanders Plant Trees program offers $25 coupons for use at participating nurseries towards the purchase of native trees for planting on private lands. Those who plant and register can observe the environmental benefits of their tree through interactive maps and charts and will be eligible for prizes. DNR reminds Marylanders that the  Gift of Trees program, which plants native trees in honor or memory of family and friends, is a great way to celebrate holidays or birthdays, or observe other special occasions.

More information is available at trees.maryland.gov.

I am a private land owner and would like to plant native trees. I am especially interested in those that will help the Bay.

      Please advise

        Richard,
Be sure to visit http://www.trees.maryland.gov/. It is a great resource that explains what types of species to plant and how to best care for your trees. The site also and features a coupon for $25 off of a native tree and an interactive “Tree Benefit Calculator.” Thanks for commenting!

Is there a list of nurseries that will accept the coupon for the Marylanders Plant Trees program?

This is a great opportunity for us all to get involved in our community. Include family and friends when you plant your trees. This is an activity which will reward not only you but others for a lifetime. To see your tree grow… it’s a great feeling so get a little dirty and have a lot of fun.
