Calling fifth-graders across the State! The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forest Service, in partnership with the Maryland Forest Conservancy District Boards, is sponsoring an Arbor Day poster contest, Trees Are Terrific….and Maryland Forests are too!

Students are encouraged to share their appreciation for Maryland’s trees and forests through their original works of art. Posters must between 8.5- by 11- inches and 22- by 28-inches, and done in marker, crayon, paint pens, watercolor, ink, acrylic, colored pencil, and/or tempera paint.

The State will award the top three entries with the following ─ 1st prize: a tree planting at the winner’s school with 15 trees, 2nd prize: a tree planting at their school with 10 trees; and 3rd prize: a tree planting at your school with 5 trees.

All posters must be delivered or mailed to a DNR Forest Service Office no later than 4 p.m. on March 27, 2013. A list of offices by county is located at dnr.md.gov/forests/county_map.asp. Click here for the submission form and more information.

Posters will be judged on a county level and then submitted to the Maryland Urban and Community Forestry Committee (MUCFC) to compete at the statewide level. Winners will be announced by May 1, 2013.
