Veteran’s Day pays homage to those who have served honorably to protect America, its people and their freedoms. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a program to celebrate these individuals for their selfless efforts and demonstrated pride, patriotism and love for this country. The program will feature keynote speaker Secretary Edward Chow, Jr. of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs, and include a reading of the Governor’s Proclamation, an open dialogue and a light lunch.
Secretary Chow was appointed by Governor Martin O’Malley on September 1, 2009. He previously served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy within the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs; as City Administrator for Kent, Washington; and as a Cabinet Officer for the state of Washington.
Chow has extensive experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors and is a Life Member of AMVETS, the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in 1962 after completing Reserve Officer Training Corps and his undergraduate degree at Seattle University.Chow served in Germany and completed his service as a Captain in Vietnam in 1967, where he was awarded a Bronze Star.
