Maryland Department of General Services and Maryland Capitol Police Hold Active Shooter Tabletop Exercise

BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS), in conjunction with the Maryland Capitol Police, (MCP) today held an interactive, discussion-based activity tabletop exercise focused on a domestic active shooter scenario. In addition to DGS and MCP, the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, Baltimore City Police, Baltimore City Office of Emergency Management, and the Maryland State Police participated in the exercise.

The purpose of this exercise is to discuss how the MCP would respond to active shooter type scenarios. The exercise is also used to determine how multiple law enforcement agencies would interact with each other during an active shooter event, the steps for employees and visitors to evacuate the building safely, and long-term support for employees after active shooter type events.

“Our agency is committed to ensuring both our employees and visitors are safe at all times,” said DGS Secretary Churchill. “This simulated exercise is to ensure that Maryland’s first responders are working in a coordination with each other in the event of an emergency.”
