Employee of the Month — Bert Mahla

Bert Mahla receives a Certificate of Appreciation from Secretary Churchill, Deputy Secretary Reichart and FOM Superintendent Dan Campbell

If you google a steamfitter’s job, you’ll learn that they are “pipe-fitters who have chosen to specialize in pipes that carry high-pressure steam, water and other elements.” The description goes on to say that “the job of steamfitter is strenuous and is not without risk.”

The job description leaves no doubt that it takes a knowledgeable, highly-trained and skilled individual to be a steamfitter. While on the job, steamfitters must perform tasks that require a variety of tools, including cutting torches, saws, pipe benders and threaders, hammers and brazers.

Bert Mahla is just such an individual. He is with Facilities Operations and Maintenance at State Center in Baltimore, and he is our Employee of the Month.

While his position is steamfitter, Bert is a versatile individual and is always ready to lend a hand. For example, he regularly assists the plumbing staff. He is an excellent welder and has repaired and manufactured railings, tools, machinery and equipment.

“Bert always has a smile on his face and is an excellent example of a devoted and committed DGS employee,” said Superintendent Dan Campbell, Bert’s supervisor. “He believes in a job well-done, has high standards, and is always polite, professional and courteous to tenants, customers and fellow employees.”

For his professionalism, commitment and courteous customer service, Bert was our Employee of the Month for December 2016.

[Bert’s name for Caught DGS (Doing Great Service) recognition in November 2016. From the Caught DGS employees recognized that month, Bert was unanimously voted December’s Employee of the Month by the Caught DGS Workgroup.]
