Employee of the Month — Rosalyn “Roz” Greene

Every DGS employee is a valued customer in Rosalyn “Roz” Greene’s playbook. Her work directly impacts the livelihoods of each of them, and they can always count on friendly service and timely responses. That’s important, because Roz and the team she supervises in Payroll ensure that employees submit their time every two weeks so they can get paid. Sounds easy, but it takes unwavering focus and razor-sharp accuracy to accomplish this for the department’s nearly 600 employees.

That’s just for the standard two-week pay periods. Every holiday, weather-related event, or special circumstance triggering a shortened or lengthened workday requires additional hours and heighten attention. Roz and her team work overtime, with little to no compensation, to ensure payroll is submitted accurately and on time. It’s during these pay periods that Roz can expect to follow up with various division personnel, often on a one-on-one basis, either to call attention to mistakes or to remind them that their time is due.

Roz is presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from Secretary Churchill, Finance Director Karen Tolley, Deputy Secretary Leigh Williams and Deputy Secretary Nelson Reichart.

Roz explained that she’s passionate about her job because she has a passion for numbers and for people, and she loves the challenges presented by the new payroll system. She added, “A positive attitude, a desire to succeed in what I do, and being able to help others make me feel good about my work.”

When a payroll problem is encountered, Roz acts quickly and decisively. She discusses the issue with her division head and presents a solution. The outcome is one-on-one personal conversations with affected employees or an agency-wide email blast.

After 29 years in state government, 18 ½ with DGS, Roz has some friendly advice for her colleagues: “As the saying goes, ‘You can’t have a good day with a bad attitude, and you can’t have a bad day with a good attitude.’

“The choice is yours, so what do you choose?”

For her passion for her work, courteous and responsive customer service, and a great attitude that is positively catching, Roz was our Employee of the Month for November 2016.

[Roz’s name was submitted for Caught DGS (Doing Great Service) recognition in October. From the Caught DGS employees recognized that month, she was voted November’s Employee of the Month by the Caught DGS Workgroup.]
