The rendering for Maryland’s newest district court was unveiled on Wednesday, June 8 to a distinguished audience that included Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera, District Court Chief Judge John Morrissey, Baltimore County delegates Charles E. Sydnor, III and Pat Young, and a representative of Baltimore County Senator Shirley Nathan-Pulliam.

Baltimore County law requires that the new Catonsville District Court remain in the 21228 Catonsville postal zip code, and the new site was selected after many site searches. Located on Parcel “D” of the Rolling Crossroads Professional Park, the 130,000 GSF court house will sit just off the intersection of North Rolling and Johnnycake Roads. The courthouse will be state of the art, with enhanced security and a future LEED Silver certification. In moving from the existing court house at Wilkins and Walker Avenues, the new courthouse will provide four additional court rooms, increasing the total court room count to seven. In addition, there will be two smaller hearings rooms, suitable for civil cases.  A 425-vehicle parking structure will also be constructed on the site.

This project was designed by a joint venture design team of Bushey Feight Morin Architects, Inc. of Hagerstown and RicciGreene Associates of New York City. Bushey Feight Morin has a long-standing reputation in Maryland of providing Capital Project Design on time and within budget. Ricci Greene brings their internationally-recognized judicial design flair.

“DGS will closely monitor the construction process and perform inspections to verify compliance with approved drawings and specifications and to ensure that the completed project is a quality facility,” said Barry Miller, project manager for the new court house.

The estimated cost of the court house is $50.3 million, and the parking structure is estimated at $10 million, for a total of $60.3 million dollars. Construction will start before the end of this year and is estimated to take 24 months.
