MEDIA ADVISORY — Extended Lane Closures on Rowe Boulevard in Annapolis

What: There will be extended lane closures along the College Creek section of Rowe Boulevard (MD 70) in Annapolis for approximately one month to complete emergency repairs to electrical and communications cables severely damaged during the winter by fire. These lines serve several buildings around the State House complex.

The Department of General Services (DGS) performed temporary repairs to maintain service through most of the busy legislative session, which runs from January through mid-April. There is a high risk of losing power and communications if permanent repairs do not get underway as quickly as possible.

When:

  • Monday, April 6 to Sunday, April 19 – The RIGHT lane of westbound Rowe Boulevard (leaving the Capital) will be closed from 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. the next day, Monday-Friday and all day Saturday-Sunday for installation of conduit and new cables. Both westbound lanes will be open during the evening rush hour. Bikes can share the travel lane; pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the eastbound side.
  • Monday, April 20 to Friday, May 1 – The closure will extend to 24 hours/day.

May 1 – Work will shift to the eastbound side of the bridge. The RIGHT lane of Rowe Boulevard will be closed for approximately two weeks for removal of old conduit and cables. Bikes can share the travel lane; pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the westbound side.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, seek alternate routes if necessary, cooperate in the merge area and remain alert for bicyclists and pedestrians.
